ESSENTIALS (Lessons 1-4) This checkoff class is for healthcare providers such as L&D, well-baby, postpartum or lactation nurses, midwife assistants, or anyone who is not expected to perform in a full neonatal resuscitation code. You will only need to take the Essentials exam, Lessons 1-4. If you are a midwife and are expected to place an oral airway and give chest compressions until paramedics arrive, you should take the Advance course. If you are unsure which type of NRP you need, check with your healthcare facility, establishment or governing board. 2. ADVANCE (Lessons 1-11) This checkoff class is for healthcare providers who will be involved with advanced neonatal resuscitation skills such as performing chest compressions, placing an airway, placing umbilical or I/O lines, and drawing up and/or giving meds. This may include midwives, neonatal nurses, advance practice nurses, respiratory therapists, physicians, physician assistants, paramedics, or any others who desire or may be required to perform advanced neonatal resuscitation skills beyond Lesson 4. Steps to Obtaining Your NRP Certification 1. Take 8th Edition NRP Online Exam at: www.nrplearningplatform.com Each of the NRP online exams (either Essentials or Advance) has a fee (payable to AAP). It is an open-book exam. If you need an NRP 8th edition book, you may purchase through www.shop.aap.org or rent a book or PDF version from www.amazon.com After passing the online exam, please print your certificate of passing to take to your instructor-led checkoff class. Note: You have 90 days after passing the online exam to be checked off on your skills and obtain your NRP eCard. 2.
